I need to make a decision for Xolair or not?

So I need to make a decision at 1 pm. Xolair or not? I will post 2 pics , the first one is my son on Allegra, reactine etc. And prior to prednisone oral treatment. he was give free after prednisone for over a month. Pic 2 is him now way better than before prednisone, but they are there:(. Should I wait ,or treat with xolair? Thank you from a very worried an confused mom

Zoraida A Pagan-Velez I just got my Xolair yesterday it was my third one and it work perfect for me. I’m hive free since day one. God bless you

Jay Gee I highly recommend xolair. I’ve been on it for a little over a year and I finally have my life back (took a little while to build up to a therapeutic level / dosage, so be a little patient). I still take antihistamines daily and prefer it that way, but NO MORE PREDNISONE. Prednisone is not supposed to be used long term it is very bad for you. Good luck either way!

Elena Caudle Hutchison Xolair is a much better long term solution vs prednisone.

Ida Carnevale He only took prednisone for 21 days:)

Ida Carnevale Is xolair for life? Can he go to school next day?

Jay Gee They make you wait in the office for a couple hours the first few times you get xolair (and again, if/when they raise the dose) to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to it. Your son could go back to school the SAME day actually. They make you carry an epi pen too just to be safe. I currently have to wait 30 minutes each time I go (per Cleveland Clinic protocol).

Ida Carnevale Wow epipen . So the risk is high?

Jay Gee Ida Carnevale I wouldn’t say the risk is high I think it’s just a precaution. I think people with severe angioedema along with their urticaria are more likely to need it, but I think they carry one anyways (regardless of xolair). You can look on the xolair website for statistics.

Linda Powell Ida Carnevale I think you are in Canada. So am I. Don’t be surprised if they don’t give you an Epipen. It is not protocol in Canada. If you are nervous about it then you might want to ask for one but otherwise they won’t likely give you one.

Caroline Jackson I’m pretty sure the risk of anaphylaxis caused by Xolair is 1 or 2 per 1000 … so 0.1% to 0.2%. Not a high risk at all statistically

William Koch Get him off prednisone it’s bad stuff I just received my first xolair shot about 3 hours ago and it was a breeze .. Epi pen is for precaution only My doctor had had hundreds of patients and she’s never seen anyone have to use it

Ida Carnevale William Koch he was on for 20 January No longer on prednisone:) just Zaditen and reActine

Yvonne Visée Clohessy Xolair didn’t work for me, but I’d go for it. Prednisone is bad, xolair is much better, it started out as a drug for asthma patients and is now also for hives patients. Epi-pens are as a precaution, but my Dr said I wouldn’t need it. I’d certainly go that route, it beats the daily meds he might otherwise need. Good luck.

Mirjana Jelovic So sorry for your little one. I would try turmeric first before xolar.

Ida Carnevale Turmeric???

Mirjana Jelovic Yes. I don’t want jinx it but works for me . Plus one doxepin

Jay Gee Well, doxepin (which is an anti depressant) is supposed to be like, 300 x more effective than Benadryl (for chronic urticaria)… I personally also take a tumeric supplement but I’d give credit to the doxepin before I’d give credit to tumeric for hives.

Mirjana Jelovic I disagree. At some point before I started talking turmeric I was taking 4 doxepin and 1 Zyrtec without relief.

Yvonne Visée Clohessy Please guys, (while we love all the suggestions) do what your dr says, not what everyone in the group says. What’s right for an adult might not be right for a child. This is NOT a one size fits all disease. It affects everyone differently, different countries have different protocols and we all react differently
