My body broke out in horrible hives and welts and my lip and fingers started swelling

My doctor refused to treat me

So late last night I became so worked up my body broke out in horrible hives and welts and my lip and fingers started swelling. Prednisone didn’t help so I went to the er as my usual next stop for relief. My doctor refused to treat me and tried to say I was lying all because I said whatever you guys gives me always helps. I guess they always give me something different as if that’s my fault when I always ask for what they gave me last time. If my records show a medication helped me why switch it up and take it out on me. After trying to talk to this doctor for 10 minutes I just snapped and demanded my discharge papers and told him I’ll just go home and suffer. My hive continued to only get worse into the morning and I said fuck this and took another 60 mg of prednisone on top of the 40mg I had taken prior to the er visit. It’s been 5 hours since I took the second dose and I still have some hives but it’s manageable. It’s sad how I had to possibly overdose myself for relief because I was refused treatment!

I was refused treatment at the A&E dep. A few years ago. Because they said it was an on going illness my GP would have to treat me. I got an emergency appointment with my GP one who is hadn’t seen before, didn’t know me, knew even less about Urticaria! !!!!!!! Now I will try very hard not to swear ….. I hadn’t slept for days, was covered in welts could have scratched my skin off. The bast_ _ _ told me to go for a walk to take my mind off it. To say I could have stuck a knife through his stupid body, is putting it mildly. I went back to hospital straight to the Skin clinic (who don’t see you without an appointment ) They were absolutely brilliant. Gave me a steroid cream and really helped because they knew me and what I used to go through. Sorry for the rant but it still makes me so angry the way some doctors just dismiss us like we are lying or making it up. FFS who would make this disease up, it’s absolutely horrendous to live with. Can I just say I’ve been controlled with Xolair and antihistamines for over 4yrs now and haven’t had Xolair for almost a year. Wonderful. Good luck and you are definitely not alone in your struggle.

Eileen Burns my doctor i see is a joke but I don’t have the best insurance so I’m limited. I tried xolair two separate times and it never worked for me. It’s so stressful you ask for is relief and you can’t even have that. The only people who truly understand our struggles is us. I wish more people would take the time to learn about it but not try to Doctor you but support you and help you. I’m literally in this on my own I have no support. My family won’t even go to the er with me. They made me drive myself a few months ago when I was struggling to breathe.

Kaylee Zimmerman that’s such a shame. Families really don’t understand either, well sorry some of them don’t. I used to get really angry when they said oh it’s just a rash use such and such. Couldn’t get it through to them it was my own immune system doing this to me. Frustrating doesn’t even come close to how I felt. I really feel for you having little or no support. We feel so isolated having this terrible disease. A little compassion goes a long way. Feel better soon.

Yes you should report him. So sorry. I know what you mean. I have gone to so many doctors and all the test they do say I am perfect. I said then maybe they should lock me up because I feel I am nuts

If I can figure out what his name is I will report him. I was so mad be the last time I had him he was the first doctor to actually treat me and not make me feel crazy he took me seriously so I have no clue what happened

This is terrible Kaylee, I’m so sorry. Sounds like you have limited Dr. options to begin with which SUCKS. It also sucks your family is not supportive….and makes me angry for you.
I’ve been in your shoes where i was ready to self prescribe because a dr was just letting me suffer 😞 it’s unbelievable.
I’ve learned to be my own advocate and not waste my time with any ER or Primary care docs when it comes to this condition. They hinder and frustrate the process so much more than they even realize.

Savannah Layne I see my specialist on the 26th but I truly don’t like him he never listens to me and it seems like he doesn’t even care to figure out what’s wrong with me

Kaylee Zimmerman I had a dermatologist do that to me so I fired him. Anger fueled my search for a new doc. Time is precious and they’re wasting it. I know that is not always an option though. I’m really hoping the best for you. Lean on this group for support when you need it. We know how much strength it takes

Kaylee Zimmerman it’s an all natural doctor. I tested positive for a parasite and my thyroid was off. After taking the natural medicines I have been hive free since June.

Kaylee Zimmerman oh that stinks. Insurance companies would rather you take pills your entire life. You may find a holistic doctor in your area that would work for you. If not, ask your regular doctor to test you for a parasite and check your thyroid. It’s worth a shot. I know how miserable hives can be.

Janice Brock Tomlinson my doctor said he checked my thyroid I believe and said it was normal. So idk at one point he was saying he thinks my immune system is attacking my blood vessels and that’s why I have this but I’ve had two appointments since the blood work and still nothing on in.

I try hard not to recommend treatments as everyone is different, but I really think quercetin 2x h as helped me lately and I’ve suffered on and off for 30 years.
