What Do Hives on Dogs Look Like?

You have most likely come across a scenario or two that has you wondering, “what do hives on dogs look like?” Maybe your dog has been scratching himself for quite some time or maybe there are just random spots on his skin that look irritated by something. The fact is, you can’t be sure what you’re seeing until you know what a case of the hives looks like.

Do you have a dog with nasty-looking hives all over the place? If so, I know exactly how you feel! My dog recently developed a hive allergy meaning he’s been susceptible to nasty-looking hives. It’s been a challenge but there’s plenty of information out there on what hives on dogs look like and how to treat your cutie.

What Do Hives on Dogs Look Like?

Hives are a skin reaction that causes the skin to become inflamed, red, and swollen. They can occur anywhere on your dog’s body but are most common on the paws, stomach, back, and face. Hives most often occur when your dog has been stung by an insect or bitten by another animal. However, they may also be caused by allergies to food or environmental factors such as pollen or dust mites.

Hives are usually fairly easy to diagnose because they appear suddenly and usually affect large areas of the skin. The first sign of hives is usually itching around the area where they’ll form later on in their development process. If you notice any signs of hives developing in your dog’s skin, it’s important to take them to see a vet right away so they can get treatment right away before things get worse!

In addition to allergies, other things can cause hives in dogs: fleas and mosquitoes; food allergies; insect bites; stress; heatstroke; or infections like mites or ticks. If you notice hives on your dog that don’t seem related to anything he or she has been exposed to recently, it’s worth taking him or her to your vet for an exam and some blood tests just in case there’s something else going on under the surface!
