Why Do Hives Occur on The Body?

If you have ever suffered from hives, or know someone that has, then you are familiar with the extreme discomfort they can cause. Hives are red, itchy welts that often appear on the arms, legs, and torso. Generally, no matter how much scratching occurs to relieve the itchiness of a hive, it will continue to remain visible through the skin and bring some form of discomfort.

Why Do Hives Occur on The Body?

Hives are red, itchy swellings that can appear anywhere on your body. They’re also known as urticaria, or “hives.”

Hives often occur in response to an allergy or irritant, but they can also be caused by stress, heat, cold, medications, and even exercise. Hives are different from other common rashes like eczema and psoriasis because they’re not limited to one area of the body they can appear anywhere on your skin.

While the exact cause of hives is unknown, doctors believe that they’re caused when your immune system releases histamine into your bloodstream. Histamine causes blood vessels in the skin to dilate and leak fluid onto the surrounding tissues this causes swelling and itching.

Some people have naturally high levels of histamine in their bodies these people are called “histadelics.”

The thing is, sometimes these reactions can be very mild… or they can be severe enough that they’re life-threatening! So what causes these two different ends of the spectrum?

Well, there are many factors involved in how severe our response will be: genetic predisposition (some people are just more likely than others), environmental triggers (like pollen levels or pollution), previous exposure, and sensitization (if you’ve had hives before or if you’ve been exposed again since last time), stress level these all play into where on this spectrum we fall!
